Whether you enjoying skiing Colorado’s snowcapped peaks or rafting down it’s raging rivers this state is an adventure lover’s paradise. There are 96 14,000 ft. peaks in all of North America, Colorado is home to 58 of them. With that comes adventure, wild life, and scenic views for miles. Here are some of the best destinations and activities across this beautiful state.
GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARKS AND PRESERVE
Four hours south of Denver lies the tallest dunes in North America, a diverse ecosystem, and some of the best stargazing in the state. There is plenty of camping in the area for those who like to sleep in the great outdoors, otherwise lodging is also available nearby.
RED ROCKS PARK AND AMPHITHEATRE
Just outside of the quaint town of Morrison, Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one of the most incredible and only naturally-occurring amphitheaters in the world. Nestled in between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, the park consists of 738 acres of beautiful landscape and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2015.
DINOSAUR RIDGE
In 1877, dinosaur tracks and fossils were found along the front range stretching from Morrison all the way to Golden. The area became known as Dinosaur Ridge and is very popular amongst school groups, tourists and dinosaur enthusiasts. Fossils are still being discovered across Colorado today. In June 2019, fossils from a full-grown Triceratops were found at a construction site in Highlands Ranch.
